Versailles

Versailles is the county seat of Ripley County, located in southeastern Indiana, 50 miles from Cincinnati, Ohio; 70 miles from Indianapolis, Indiana and 70 miles from Louisville, Kentucky.

Versailles was founded in 1818 by the first settlers who came to this Indian Territory in 1781. The Town of Versailles was very fortunate in being the home of the late James H. Tyson, benefactor and philanthropist, who with Charles Walgreen, Sr. founded the Walgreen drug chain. During his lifetime he had a number of beautiful buildings constructed in town that are now on the National Historic Register.

The downtown area features the historic Versailles Square, which boasts a beautiful three-story Courthouse that was completed 1863. It is also home to a variety of businesses, retail shops, and restaurants with that Old-Fashioned, Main Street America feel.
